The brand made its debut in 1994 when acclaimed makeup
artist François Nars created a range of 12 richly-pigmented
lipsticks housed in unique soft-touch cases and sold them at
Barneys New York. NARS has since grown into a collection of
more than 600 products — including a full spectrum of fashionforward
and classic makeup shades, advanced complexion
perfectors, state of the art skincare and professional artistry
tools — available worldwide.

Along the way, NARS garnered a reputation for launching
modern cult classics that revolutionized the world of beauty
with provocative shade names and professional products for
women everywhere. François Nars’ unapologetically audacious
approach of embracing the limitless possibilities of expression
through makeup has empowered women to explore the varied
facets of their personalities through color and texture.

This pioneering philosophy has similarly guided countless
product innovations including The Multiple, a multi-purpose
color stick for eyes, cheeks and lips and Orgasm, a peachypink
shade laced with golden shimmer that began as a blush
and spawned a complete lineup of flush-enhancing products
for cheeks, eyes, lips, nails and body.

Since 1996, François has personally photographed all NARS
campaigns in his signature style, characterized by bold
imagination, individuality and keen insight. In doing so, he has
pushed the boundaries of the industry’s traditional definition
of beauty — collaborating with many of the world’s most
unique and iconic women in order to bring his singular vision
for the brand to life.

NARS Founder and Creative Director François Nars launched
his namesake brand with a collection of 12 unforgettable
lipsticks. Now, in celebration of its 20th Anniversary, NARS
pays tribute to its beginnings and the tremendous success
that followed with a collection of lipsticks so seductive in
touch and texture, the sensation is absolutely audacious.

Introducing the Audacious Lipstick Collection: radically intense,
single-stroke lipsticks with super-saturated color and an ultra
smooth, soft matte finish.

François specifically chose renowned actress Charlotte
Rampling as the face of the Audacious Lipstick Collection.
Celebrated for her work in films like “Farewell, My Lovely,” “Angel
Heart,” “Stardust Memories” and “The Verdict,” Charlotte’s bold
choices and independent spirit have produced fascinating
characters with indelible impact. In both her personal and
professional life, Charlotte is known for breaking barriers, taking
risks and embodying a creative expression that transcends
time. For François, Charlotte’s individuality, daring style and
natural elegance — on and off camera — captured the very
essence of the Audacious Lipstick Collection.

Audacious Lipsticks usher in a new era of color purity and
texture: the innovative, pigment-rich formula delivers an
intense, full-coverage finish that glides on in a single stroke.
The luxurious, long-lasting formula is infused with ingredients
known to smooth, moisturize and volumize. Micro-sized lipid
spheres deliver fuller looking lips. Portulaca Extract combine
with natural peptides to stimulate hydration and make lips
appear healthier. Tamanu Oil locks in moisture and protects
against environmental damage, while White Mushroom

Extract adds a brightening effect.
Housed in a modern, weighted, matte-black metallic case
with a magnetic closure, the specially designed sculpted
bullet is embossed with the NARS logo. The collection’s
30 provocative shades are named for women who have
influenced François throughout his career.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO CELEBRATE 20 YEARS
WITH A NEW LIPSTICK?

I love lipstick. It’s the one makeup item — the one accessory really — that women
all over the world must have, no matter what. I launched NARS with 12 shades
of lipsticks and many, many launches later, I’m still most proud of our lipsticks.
It seemed fitting to celebrate our 20th Anniversary with a new lip collection.

TO WHAT DO YOU OWE THE SUCCESS OF THE BRAND?
Well, first I think we introduced something that didn’t exist and that was very
special. I created the brand from scratch and put so much of my soul into NARS
that I think that translates into the actual products and the image of the brand.

HOW IS AUDACIOUS LIPSTICK DIFFERENT FROM YOUR
OTHER LIP COLORS?
Besides the packaging and the shape of the lipstick, the formula for Audacious
Lipstick is really unique. The color is super intense. One coat gives an amazing
amount of pigment. And it really lasts, too. But where many longwearing lipsticks
can be dry, this one glides on really well and feels comfortable.

WHAT MAKES CHARLOTTE RAMPLING SUCH AN IDEAL
FACE OF THE CAMPAIGN?
Charlotte is a favorite actress of mine. I love her work. She has such a strong
beauty. It’s tough and full of charisma, which is, I think, very similar to the
essence of NARS.
